People regularly remark on the wonderful acoustic at St Matthias Church, and we have always thought this wonderful building deserves to be enjoyed by more people, so….
…we’re now working with the team who put on those stylish and classy music events at St Pancras Old Church to bring some live sounds here THIS autumn – St Matthias Nights.
St Pancras Old Church has become London’s foremost venue for emerging artists to launch EPs and albums, and also hosts music industry showcase performances. It’s also popular among established and celebrated artists looking for an intimate venue.
We can’t wait to host some of their famed singer-songwritery evenings and favourite artists.

An illustrious reputation
We are walking in the footsteps of giants, as Grade I-listed St Matthias Church has always been a centre of artistic excellence.
Built in 1850 by renowned Gothic revival architect William Butterfield, in 1852 it became the residency of famed organist, church musician and composer W H Monk for 37 years, during which he inspired many with his music and wrote some of his most famous hymns here, including Abide With Me.
After being bombed in WWII, the church was saved from the ashes by the passion and determination of its congregation. It now boasts magnificent 1950s stained glass windows celebrating the lives of ordinary working people, designed by one of this country’s most celebrated stained glass artists Frederick Cole (Knighted in 1972 for his expert restoration of the 13th century windows at Canterbury Cathedral), with a WWI war memorial designed by prominent metalwork artist William Bainbridge Reynolds.
