Storm of a fundraiser for Barbuda

We are pleased and proud to have hosted community choir Chorus of Dissents’ recent fundraising dinner in St Matthias Hall which raised almost £1,000 for the Rebuild Barbuda Relief Fund.
The dinner followed the choir’s gala Tubular Bells concert at Stoke Newington Town Hall which raised £3,500 for the beleaguered Caribbean island destroyed by Hurricane Irma.
Conductor Ruth Whitehead donated proceeds from the events because the choir is based here at St Matthias, which is also the parish church for the Antigua Barbudan community in London.
Our neighbours from the congregation cooked a fabulous supper and all profits were given to the gargantuan task of rebuilding their homeland. We were even joined by the High Commissioner for Antigua Barbuda Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill who guest conducted a piece at the concert.
Says Ms Hill: “Thank you Stoke Newington for your generosity in helping people rebuild their lives. We are so, so grateful.”
